Accessing the solar website:

Wilderland has two websites, one always-on, higher resolution website that is heavier to run, and one experimental, situated site, that is solar powered, and in the Nephin Park

The solar site might not always be on or available, it also has other quirks, and will be slower. Adjust your expectactions for this Permacomputing + Small Web alternative.

The People's Transition

Community-led Development for Climate Justice

Wilderland is collaborating with TASC Think-tank for Action on Social Change to bring The People's Transition to Mulranny.

The People’s Transition views climate action as an enabler of local development. It gives people and communities a voice in, and ownership of, the transition to a zero-carbon society.

The People's Transition is a participative decision-making model developed by TASC that aims to enhance public support for climate action by tackling inequality and raising standards of living through the delivery of climate solutions.

By bringing together climate justice, community development, and participatory democratic processes, it demonstrates how citizen engagement and cultural change processes are stronger, fairer, and more sustainable if they involve grassroots climate action.

Following two successful pilots in Ireland, one in a rural community in Ardara, Donegal and another in an urban community in Phibsborough, Dublin, the People’s Transition model is now expanding to new communities across the island of Ireland over the next three years.

Wilderland is collaborating with TASC to bring the people’s Transition to Mulranny, which has been designated as Mayo’s initial Decarbonisation Zone. TASC will engage with the local community in Mulranny and the wider electoral division of Newport West over a year to understand challenges that local people face and identify solutions to these challenges. They will research nature-based solutions that will help the transition to a low carbon, sustainable community that can adapt to the challenges presented by climate change going forward, and provide future social, economic and environmental benefits to the community.

TASC Think-tank for Action on Social Change

TASC independent Think-tank for Action on Social Change is a public education charity that engages in research and public outreach concerning inequality, democracy, and climate justice.

It seeks to increase public knowledge of economic and social policy, improve working conditions, facilitate a just transition to advance climate action, protect livelihoods and communities, and, more generally, contribute to positive social change in Ireland and the EU.

TASC’s work addresses four key areas:
Equality, Democracy, Social Inclusion, and Climate Justice.

They conduct research and analysis, initiate and contribute to public awareness and debate, influence policy, and support change on the ground.

The primary aim in their work is to translate analysis into action, or to use research to improve frontline services and develop innovative, effective projects that tackle urgent issues like climate change and in-work poverty.

TASC’s main objectives are:

  • Promoting education for the public benefit
  • Encouraging a more participative and inclusive society
  • Promoting and publishing research for public benefit.

TASC is the only independent think tank in Ireland and this independence contributes to their credibility as an organisation equipped to conduct original research that informs practice and increases social impact.
