I am a Visual Artist living and working in Westport, Co Mayo, mainly working in drawing, painting and mixed media. My work is informed by the built and natural environment.
I am interested in the dynamics that exists between chaos and order in these environments and the energies of transformation implicit in these processes of change whether human or naturally made. My work explores themes of stability, shelter, transience and regeneration in an ever evolving world. In recent work, through drawing and painting, I have been exploring local natural habitats. I am interested in the wildness of these places when left for a while without human intervention and how they flourish, and also in over grazed habitats that are struggling to sustain themselves. This body of work is an ongoing project.
To date I have had 12 solo exhibitions in Ireland, Northern Ireland and Austria and was selected for numerous group exhibitions both nationally and internationally. I was awarded an Agility Award in 2021 from the Arts Council of Ireland, awarded a residency in Austria in 2022 from the Custom House Studios, Westport and AIR krems, Austria, and was an award winner at the Leitrim Sculpture Centre Summer Exhibition in 2018.
